The castle seige |
90 people turned out to celebrate the new year in a fun-filled day of lighthearted tournaments. Diamond, Auric, and Oryhara of the Barony; Temorse, Adara, Alexander and Yroark of the Blue Falcons organized the tourney with help from Kheldar and Kerin. Maverik, Makhta, and Veros's help was welcome as well. 4 Red Dragons attended. The high point of the tourneys was the castle seiges, with Oryhara's Krunk the catpult firing early and often. Fabulous prizes were auctioned off to the tourney winners. Kerin swore her fealty to the Barony and was welcomed as part of the team.

An Inisidious Threat to the Frontier |

Griff and Maverick parley |
Our thanks to all those who broke the back of the goblin threat by unmasking
and slaying their mysterious leader. Thanks to you, the settlers are safe.
Unlike the tourney gathering a week before, in which good fellowship seemed
to rule all, there were a few incidents reported which duty, uncompromising
mistress that she is, compels me to address as follows:
On April 26th 1008,Oryhara of Banecroft began to receive a series of reports
of alleged illegal activities in his region of responsibility. It was not
until afternoon when goblin attacks on Banecroft town began to subside that
he was freed from his other duties to investigate. He gathered the reports,
investigated them, and reported to me four incidents of note.
1 - it was alleged that members of Grimlock assaulted the adventurer known
as Bear. Upon investigation, Oryhara concluded that while the attack did
take place, Grimlock was not at fault under the "defending Banecroft" clause
in our laws. Namely, the unfortunate Bear bore a suprising resemblance to
the drawing on our wanted poster for the notorious murderer Leo Maxwell.
Thus while Bear was not actually a threat to Banecroft, Grimlock had a valid
reason to think that he was and did not act illegally in this incident.
2 - Sara Jacobs, commoner farmer on Banecroft's frontier, reported an
assault and theft. Her testimony to Oryhara was that she was slain by
Rhode, and that she became alive again by Rhode raising her with a scroll.
The shovel that she was carrying was now in the hands of an unidentified
mail-wearing man, and her scrolls and food were gone. When Oryhara
investigated, Rhode admitted to slaying Sara, which is a case of aggravated
assault under our laws. Justice in Banecroft always consists of two parts -
recompense to the injured and a deterrent imposed by the state. Because of
Rhode's honesty in admitting the assault to the investigating party is to be
encouraged, we waive the deterrent, leaving only recompense. We have
determined the value of the scrolls, shovel and food which were lost as a
direct result of Sara's death at 80 silver, and as she was quickly raised by
Rhode there are no other damages. Thus 8 gold (which will be sent to Sara
via any blue-tabard Baronial) will restore Rhode to legal status in
Banecroft or lands agreed to uphold Banecroft's laws. The unidentified
mail-wearing man is still wanted to face inquiries on his alleged theft.
3 - It was reported that Vericon the three-headed dragon-mage slew a number
of adventurers. Oryhara investigated and as a result of witness's testimony
determined that it was a case of self-defense. Self defense is legal under
our laws.
4 - Friends of Griff reported that Maverick the mercenary killed and scalped
Griff, noted adventurer. When Oryhara investigated, Maverick admitted to
doing the deed. The reasons he gave did not make his actions legal.
Again, his honesty is to be commended and reflected in waiving the deterrent
portion of justice. We are seeking information on what happened to Griff as
a result of this murder. Has Griff been restored to the living, and did
Maverick help in said restoration or not? We are looking for reports on
Griff's restoration (if any), how long he was down and what befell his
companions in his absence. In the meantime Maverick has admitted to actions
that are Murder under Baronial law and we are still determining what justice
fits the crime. Information to be submitted to Oryhara or myself, and we
must so rule no later than Feast of Chimeron, as delayed justice is thwarted
justice.
Oryhara created some sealed documents which a courier volunteered to bring
to other parties. Please note that those posters document the complaints
which began his investegations, and as noted above some of the accused were
cleared of their alleged crimes upon investigation, and some were not.

Kheldar considers his path |
Diamond, Temorse, and Alexander attend. Feasting and fun is gemerally enjoyed, not least at Uncle Cecil's. The Bois from Bedlam threaten some, including causing the early morning blackout of Ivory's Cabin, in which Diamond and Temorse are briefly lost - before their rescue thanks in great part to Zula. Thieves are also a problem.
Kheldar undertakes a grevious responsibility: to suffer a stint in hell in order to guard a gate that must be guarded. We look foreward to his december return.
All is well on the diplomatic front. Happily, Griffin dropped the charges
against Maverick, and Grimlock recompensed Sara on Rhode's behalf. Cases
closed.

Diamond, Auric, Temorse, Killian, Adara, Slice, Croythar, Jake, Lochlan, Puffpastry, and four of the new Yellow Dragon Clan attended. Diamond was general of the East, in which we were joined by a new group organized by Lianna, and the mighty Folkestone.
Oppressive heat made time spent in the water the best part of the event, but the new tourney format made things very dynamic.

The grand melee. On left: Cro and Baronia. Right: Allied line from Arden to the Realms. |
Diamond, Auric, Mahkta, and Tarnisha represented our realms in this intra-planar grand tourney, the Blood Games. To that end we felt we did well: Makhta won second place in the Bardic and Diamond third. Auric came second in the card tournament. Thanks to Tarnisha's puzzle solving and research, we came in second in the Arcane Hunt. Overall we came in 4th, well ahead of all the similarly sized teams but signficantly less than the much larger teams.
Each Realm was different and interesting, as recorded in Diamond's bardic:
When Cro comes marching home again, huzzah, huzzah
When Cro comes marching home again, huzzah, huzzah
The Cro are very proud that they're free
they can beat you on the field two out of three!
When Arden comes marching home again, huzzah, huzzah
When Arden comes marching home again, huzzah, huzzah
They've got lots of good bards
with their royal gossip, that isn't hard
When Baronia comes marching home again, huzzah, huzzah
When Baronia comes marching home again, huzzah, huzzah
Beware their poison and their stealth
their presence isn't good for your health
When Dupre comes marching home again, huzzah, huzzah
When Dupre comes marching home again, huzzah, huzzah
Evil overlords they overthrow
while wearing colors of their foe
When the Realm of Seasons comes marching home again, huzzah, huzzah
When the Realm of Seasons comes marching home again, huzzah, huzzah
When a traitor aspires to the throne
the Eclipse is given cause to moan
When the Unbound comes marching home again, huzzah, huzzah
When the Unbound comes marching home again, huzzah, huzzah
Having Gods is not something they miss
they're re-binding them in their hubris
When the Realms comes marching home again, huzzah, huzzah
When the Realms comes marching home again, huzzah, huzzah
It may be very difficult to unite,
at least until the enemy's in sight
We made close friendships with the General of the Unbound and Sir Andrew of Arden. Cro impressed us with their fighting skills, but allied with the Drow of Baronia to mug everyone else they could reach that night: sweeping past the tavern, camping at the exit of the dungeon quest, even attacking unarmed women going to and from the shower. The next day when our strength was finally massed, our Wraxaclajan hosts asked that we not bring violence outside of the tourney lists. As a result, in the Grand Melee tourney everyone else allied with Arden against the Cro/baronia hegemony, but to no avail: after an exciting line battle which lasted for a long time, we were defeated. Cro and Baronia treated each other very chivarlously in their finalist confrontation, and Cro swept on to win the Blood Games banner.

Diamond, Oryhara, and Kerin of Banecroft; Adara, Temorse, and Alexander of the Blue Falcons; and Slice, Croythar, Talia, and Puffpastry of the Red Dragon Clan attended.
Lucius of the Order of the Red instructed us how best to slay a powerful demoness. We needed to quest for keys to enter parts of a mausoleum in order to find parts to a golem. When re-assembled, the golem taught us the secret to enter the World's End Tavern, which (once we had gained enough power through questing) we could then use to reach the demoness's home plane.
Puffpastry and Slice gained one of the mausoleum's keys through dancing. Kovacks, Talia and the Veridion Guard teamed up to gain rights to another key through negotiation with an isolationist clan. Talia's spells saved Diamond from necromantic embarassment.
Among the many deizens of the World's End Tavern, we discovered Dirk of Chimeron, lost in the bottle there these 6 years. During our quest out of the tavern, Banecroft's teamwork and initiative were successful in a tricky challenge.
Once we reached the demoness's home plane, we set about systematically weakening her power by breakding 12 seals, each being protected by her forces and each containing a word to a phrase which had the magic words to make her vulnerable. After a day of questing, we slowly but surely got all the words. After some frantic conferring around Alexander's notebook, we determined the phrase and faced the demoness one last time.
In this battle the demoness's forces swept around the periphery of our army like a whirlwind. We were finally able to do what was necessary and slay her, but not before a lot of terrible fighting. It was very difficult indeed to break her out of her army and destroy her weakness. Once done, the gate home began to close precipitiously! Diamond ran back to inform one group of adventurers cut off from the main body of the army, and they returned with only seconds to spare. Harlest was lost there, although another group had begun to work towards his release before the night was over.
